Marimba Project Update
You guys asked for it... Here's the very first sound test of my DIY marimba! Played by two special guests :)
Ofc it sounds dead asf but it's perfectly fine at this stage! At least they make a sound haha!
Follow for more updates on this project until the marimba is complete!
Experimenting
Trial and error using Pine, Oregon and Kwila wood!
Sourcing Wood
Searching through Bunnings Warehouse, Mitre 10, Halswell Timber, One Stop Deck Shop and finally BBS Timbers which I settled on!
Cutting Purpleheart timber to size
Using my newly bought bandsaw, I measured the dimentions and began cutting!
Rough Tuning
This is my current stage! Tuning the fundamental, the first overtone (wo octaves higher) and the second overtone (three octaves and a majpr third higher) using the belt sander!
Resonators
PVC Pipes do a great job at amplifying sound! Made a prototype to see how it looks :)
The Frame
Trying to figure out how to make these little bar posts is so frustrating! Any ideas? I've experimented with wood, clay etc...
